Neyveli Book Fair 2026 Opens Silver Jubilee Edition

One of South India’s most anticipated literary events is set to return in grand fashion as the Neyveli Book Fair 2026 celebrates its 25th Silver Jubilee Edition. Organized by NLC India Limited (NLCIL), the 11-day festival will run from June 19 to June 29 at Neyveli Township, bringing together publishers, authors, students, educators and book lovers from across the region.

Widely regarded as the second-largest book fair in South India, the event has grown significantly over the past quarter-century, evolving from a local initiative into a major cultural and literary gathering that attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Grand Opening Ceremony

The Silver Jubilee edition will be inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry K. Kailashnathan, IAS (Retd.), who will attend as the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony held at Lignite Hall, Neyveli Township.

The event will be presided over by Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Chairman and Managing Director of NLC India Limited, alongside the company's senior leadership and officials.

More Than 130 Publishers Under One Roof

A major attraction of this year's fair is the participation of over 130 publishing houses from across India. Visitors can browse through lakhs of books spanning a wide range of genres, including literature, fiction, children's books, competitive examinations, science, technology, history, culture and academic subjects.

The extensive collection is expected to draw students, researchers, teachers and avid readers from Tamil Nadu and neighboring states.

A Celebration Beyond Books

While books remain at the heart of the fair, the event has expanded into a broader cultural festival over the years.

This year's edition will feature:

  • Daily book launches
  • Author interactions and literary discussions
  • Award ceremonies honoring writers and publishing professionals
  • Poetry and short story collection launches by local authors
  • Special literary programs for readers of all ages

The fair also provides a valuable platform for emerging voices from Neyveli and surrounding regions to showcase their work before a wider audience.

Mega Short Film Contest Adds Creative Spark

Adding a new dimension to the celebrations, NLC India Limited has partnered with the Tamil daily Dinamani to organize a Mega Short Film Contest. The initiative aims to encourage aspiring filmmakers and provide a stage for creative storytelling beyond the written word.

Supporting Young Readers

In a significant effort to promote educational access, NLC India Limited has arranged free bus transportation for government school students, particularly those from rural and underserved communities.

The initiative seeks to ensure that young readers have the opportunity to explore books, discover new ideas and develop a lasting reading habit regardless of their background.

Visitors can also look forward to a vibrant lineup of evening cultural programs throughout the fair. Scheduled events include:

  • Pattimandrams (public debates)
  • Music concerts
  • Dance performances
  • Cultural showcases by renowned artists from Tamil Nadu

These programs are expected to transform the fair into a lively community celebration that combines literature, learning and entertainment.
